This lesson teaches several important skills, including: Safety awareness skills — learning how to stay safe during a fire emergency. Emergency response skills — understanding what to do if clothing catches fire and when to call 911. Sequencing skills — putting the steps “Stop, Drop, and Roll” in the correct order during the cut-and-glue activity. Listening and comprehension skills — watching and understanding the fire safety video and participating in discussion. Fine motor skills — cutting, gluing, coloring, and assembling the stop sign craft. Following directions — completing activities step-by-step. Critical thinking skills — recognizing dangerous situations and choosing safe actions. For a lesson plan form, you could summarize the main skill as: Personal safety and emergency preparedness skills or Fire safety awareness and emergency response skills By the end your child should understand stop, drop and roll practices, be able to dial 911 in an emergency, know the difference between an actual emergency and a non emergency, and tell the 911 operator who they are, what the emergency is and where the emergency is depending on the grade level. This is a lesson for all grade levels. Different ages will be able to do more or less with this lesson. The youngest I have thought with this lesson was 2 years old. This is a lesson plan that comes with worksheets and activities to do as well as questions to ask during the lesson.
